University Athletes Recognize Brandi Norman and Meg Zets as Most Valuable Professors (February 2011)
For the second year in a row, student athletes honored professors across campus who have given them the most positive experiences in the classroom. This year, student athletes chose two professors from each department --- singling out Brandi Norman and Meg (Mary) Zets from the Biology Department, as their Most Valuable Professors.
Brandi and Meg, along with other honorees, were recognized during halftime of the UNCP men's basketball game on Wednesday, 23 February 2011. The Student-Athletic Advisory Committee hosted the auspicious event, Faculty Appreciation Night, and bestowed a certificate of appreciation and a T-shirt on each honoree. Chancellor Kyle Carter personally congratulated Brandi and Meg at the conclusion of the ceremony. This is Meg's second year to receive the MVP distinction.
Meg has been teaching in the Department of Biology since 2007, the same 
year she received a M.A. in Science Education from the Department. She also holds a B.S. in Biology (tracks in Environmental Biology and Botany) from the Department and an A.S. in Animal Health from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia.
Brandi is in her second semester with the Department, coming to us from teaching positions at Abingdon High School and Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Virginia. Brandi has a B.S. in Biology from King College in Bristol, TN, and a M.S. in Biology from Radford University in Radford, VA.
Both professors are teaching the BIO 1000 Principles of Biology lecture and lab, and they plan to teach the Department's new introductory course for non-majors --- BIO 1060 Exploring Life's Diversity --- in fall 2011.
