protection of electronic/computer equipment
Police and Public Safety Policy PS 02 01
Purpose:
This policy is established
to provide a process that will better protect University electronic/computer
equipment from vandalism and theft.
Scope:
This policy is campus-wide,
and as such it applies to all office, classrooms, and computer labs.
Policy:
In order to protect
University property from vandalism and theft, certain procedures will
need to be developed and implemented.
Procedures:
1. all electronic/computer
equipment should be locked-down at the work site with cable and padlock,
2. offices, classrooms, and computer labs should be locked when not in
use,
3. each lab should have posted hours of operation, and the University
Police should be provided with these hours of operation,
4. lab managers/faculty and staff should be responsible for checking to
ensure that all equipment is accounted for at the end of each class, and
prior to securing the room,
5. a regular inventory of electronic/computer equipment should take place
in order to pinpoint thefts which occur,
6. an ID card should be worn by those person who are working on, or moving,
electronic/computer equipment, i.e. vendors, staff, University Computing
Services staff, etc.
