Dear Alumni and Art Enthusiasts:
The last year has flown by and
here it is time for another homecoming which is February 15-21, 2004.
Our faculty exhibit is up in the gallery and we would like to invite
you to stop by Locklear Hall from 8 to 5 Monday - Friday. The art department
has had an excellent year with steady growth and faculty and students
receiving many awards and opportunities for research. Keeping the UNCP
Art Department a friendly and supportive place to study art and receive
a high quality education remains our prime concern. With the growth
of our student population we are adding a Ceramist and an Art Historian
to our faculty in Fall 2004. We are offering more courses in the summer
and in the evening as well as online. We are excited about the new courses
we are able to offer and invite you to check out the new offerings.
In the last year I have noticed
several alumni receiving grants and awards and exhibiting in our community.
I would like to add a section in the news letter for your accomplishments
so please email or send them to Blake Tyner or myself. I congratulate
you for all you are doing that serves our community educationally and
in the fine arts.
With the growth of our department
we have additional needs. Here is a list of the donations that would
be welcomed. We can use your support for whatever amount you may offer.
If you would like to work to form an art alumni group or contribute
in any way just let us know. Here are the lists of awards and projects
that need your support.

We would like to have more endowed
scholarships for our students. While our student population has doubled
in the last few years we have not added any scholarships.
Winter is waning and we will soon
be entering the glorious time of buds and blooms which are no where
else as beautiful as in Robeson County. I also am proud to say that
seeing our students open up and learn and go on to exciting lives in
the art field is equally beautiful.
I am proud to serve you and the
art students and faculty at UNCP as chair of the Art Department.
Sincerely,
Janette K. Hopper

Their art teacher, Mrs. Hope Norris-Hunt, a graduate of UNCP Art Department, has been bringing her students to campus for the demonstration for the past 3 years. These demonstrations are coordinated and produced by Professor Paul Van Zandt, 3-D coordinator for the Art Department, and this year assisted by Mark Morris, a graduate student in Art Education.
