Dr. Ann Horton-Lopez
Dr. Ann Horton-Lopez is the Director of Art Education Graduate Studies at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She earned her Ph. D. in Curriculum and Instruction (emphasis in Art Education and a second emphasis in Early Childhood) at the University of Missouri–Columbia. Her Post Doctoral work was in Reading Education and Special Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She taught elementary and secondary art in public and private Missouri schools.
Due to her diverse educational background, she has taught courses in Early
Childhood/Psychology at Columbia College, Columbia, Missouri, and Reading
Education at Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri, Special Education
and Early Childhood at the University of William Woods, Fulton, Missouri,
and Art Education at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has also
taught art education and art history courses at the University of North
Carolina at Pembroke and was the Art Education Undergraduate and Graduate
Program Coordinator.
Dr. Horton-Lopez received the University of North Carolina Teaching Award
in May of 2007. She has an “open line of communication” with
her students and emphasizes a personal and relevant approach to post-baccalaureate
art education. She challenges students to take their skills and knowledge
to a new level of mastery. The two art education graduate programs are
noted for their breath and depth of content experiences and improvement
of pedagogical skills.
