We’re transfer-friendly!

If you’re planning to transfer, you’ve got some decisions to make. Here are some things to think about before taking the plunge.

1. Does your new school have your major? (Many students change colleges because their first choice didn’t have their program.)
2. Will your credits transfer?
3. Does your new school offer transfer students scholarships or financial aid?
4. Is it the right size? (Maybe you selected a big school the first time and realized “large” wasn’t a good fit.)
5. Does it feel right? Do yourself a favor and visit your school of choice. Do you like the people? The campus? The professors? Visit! It’s a good thing.

Thinking about Pembroke? We welcome transfer students and work hard to make the transfer process go as smoothly as possible. But you’ll need to do a few things first:

• Complete a UNCP application.
• Send in your $40 application fee.
• Ask your high school to send official transcripts to us.
• Request official transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges and/or universities
• Have your last college or university complete a University Questionnaire (PDF).

Hint: You can complete an application online. Or you can print out a PDF of our application and send it in. (To view and print the UNCP application, you’ll need Adobe Reader, which you can download by clicking here.)

Once everything is in—and we mean everything—we’ll let you know your admission status as soon as possible. If you are accepted, you will receive a course-by-course evaluation of your previously completed coursework along with a General Education Checklist showing how your prior experience meets our General Education Requirements. This will tell you how your classes will transfer at UNCP.

A word on transfer credits

Generally speaking, if you participated in a college transfer program and received an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Fine Arts degree, those credits should transfer. UNCP participates in the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the North Carolina Community College System. Courses from two-year schools outside of North Carolina are evaluated on an individual basis.

Courses taken at regionally accredited four-year colleges and universities are normally accepted with grades of "C" or higher. In cases where UNCP offers a similar course, specific course credit is given. In other cases, you will receive elective credits. We make every effort to grant specific course credit where appropriate.
