Biography
I was born on October 22, 1990. I am the middle child of three daughters to Mickey and Minnie Stoker. In 2009 I graduated Salutatorian from Jack Britt High School. Currently a senior at UNCP, I am a member of the Esther G. Maynor Honors College and the President of the Accounting Students' Association. Upon Graduation, I will be moving to Washington, D.C. to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Washington Federal Practice.
Why did you choose to attend UNCP?
I love numbers, but, in choosing a college I wanted to feel like a person and not a number. I choose Pembroke because it offered the small class sizes and individual attention granted by private institutions with the affordability of a state institution. Furthermore, small classes weren't enough, I wanted professors who engaged and interacted with their students. After attending the "Come Build a Future in Accounting" event and meeting the faculty in the accounting department, I knew interactive professors were a staple at UNCP. Also, my parents are alumni who met many years ago at "Pembroke State" so in one aspect I can credit the university for my existence and coming to UNCP was simply coming back to my roots.
What do you like best about UNCP?
My favorite quality of UNCP is the genuine interest that professors and faculty have in the students. Professors have always been willing to help and easy to talk to. Also, having dealt with illness of a family member during my college experience, my professors were not only willing to help me as needed with my academic life but also very supportive and compassionate about my family life.
