Biography
I grew up in Lumberton, NC and graduated from Pee Dee Academy in 2008. I attended UNCP from 2008 to 2012 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. During my time at UNCP, I served as Vice President-Standards and President of Kappa Delta Sorority, Orientation leader for three years, Supplemental Instruction Leader for Introduction to Psychology, and interned in the Office of Greek Life. After graduating from UNCP in May, I was accepted into the Higher Education Administration graduate program at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Upon graduation, I hope to obtain a job working with Greek life at a college or university in the southeast.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending UNCP
One of the most important things I learned while at UNCP, was to utilize all the resources on campus. Whether it is tutoring, advising or student involvement, the faculty and staff are always willing to help you. The career center was a great help to me when I went to create a resume and personal statement for graduate school. They gave me a wealth of resources and made the graduate application process much easier for me. My internship supervisor shared her own personal experiences with me to help me prepare for my own career. Although, I'm nine hours away from UNCP, I still keep in contact with her. It's opportunities like this that are available only at a school like UNCP.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Get involved! There is something to be said for the learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Take full advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. I learned so many valuable lessons through my involvement on campus. Not only was it a great way to meet other students on campus, but I also gained leadership and organizational skills, interpersonal skills, networking opportunities, and gained so many experiences that can be applied in my job now. College is your time to explore all of the possibilities! Engage in activities that relate to your major as well as activities just for fun. The possibilities are endless! Pembroke truly is a place where you arrive thinking you want to do one thing, and realize that you are capable of doing so much more!
