Biography
I completed high school in Kenya, then came to the U.S. to go to college in Tennessee. I transferred to UNCP in 2001 and graduated with my BS in Biology and Chemistry (pre-med emphasis). I was accepted at the Johns Hopkins University medical school to pursue my doctorate studies in human genetics and began in the fall of 2005.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending UNCP
The most important thing I learned is that the learning experience is enhanced in a small class size setting.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
If you work hard at UNCP, your efforts will be rewarded. Make use of all the numerous resources available at UNCP. One of the most important things to do is to establish a good relationship with your advisor and your instructors. My advisor and instructors at UNCP were very helpful in locating internship opportunities for me, writing strong letters of recommendation, and offering important advice about my career path. I believe that they had a major role in my being accepted into such a competitive program at Johns Hopkins University Medical School.
Additional Comments
I'm glad I chose to study at UNCP! Thanks to all my instructors, as well as all the other faculty members and staff at UNCP, that made my college experience such a success. For the current and prospective students UNCP is definitely the right school for you.
