Biography
When I began my career as a student I wasn't sure what I wanted to be when 'I grew up'. I discovered I liked the Social Work field, but needed help in picking the right career for me. Thanks to several professors at UNCP, I was able to find not only what I was good at, but also what I enjoyed. Dr. Steve Marson with the Social Work Program saw something special in me and encouraged me all the way. I am now working with Senior Citizens promoting health and fitness in five counties.
What was the most important thing you learned while attending UNCP
I learned that working hard pays off. It isn't always about making all A's, but how hard you work for your grades. I also learned the importance of working well with others through the classroom assignments and organizations that I was involved in during my years at UNCP. I have incorporated this perspective into my career goals today, and have often been complimented on my ability to work hard and be a 'team player'.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
My advice to students is work hard to achieve your goals, but don't forget to have fun. I made many special memories and friendships during my years at UNCP that I will take with me forever!
