Biography
Originally a "country kid" from near Blacksburg, Virginia; I am a first-generation college student, the youngest of three children. I earned my BA and MA from Virginia Tech and my PhD from U of South Carolina. I specialize in composition and rhetoric at UNCP, and I also teach Southern Literature.
What have you learned while teaching at UNCP?
I've been reminded how important it is to help first-generation college students navigate university life and how academics can be taken for granted.
Additional Comments
The students often comment that they feel the atmosphere is open to everyone's ideas and that I am overall a "hard but fair" and very "encouraging" professor.
