Biography
I am a linguist with an MA from The American University (DC) and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My undergraduate major was theatre at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, NC. Originally from Virginia, I spent twelve years teaching in the English Department at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, before coming to Pembroke. Before doing graduate work, I was Vice President-Administration of a national trade association in Washington, DC. As many of our students do, I earned my master's degree while working full-time.
What do students like best about your class?
Full-time students find that they can apply what they learn to projects that they have to do in other classes. Students who are also teachers find that they can use what they learn in their own classrooms.
Additional Comments
A lot of students underestimate themselves when they begin college and are pleasantly surprised at what they can do when they really try.
