Speech Evaluation

UNC PEMBROKE - SPEECH EVALUATION

One of the aims expressed in the current Vision Statement of UNCP is to challenge students to “communicate effectively.”  Effective communication – both oral and written – is one of the most important factors in academic and career success.  While skills in written communication can be evaluated based on scores from written testing, skills in effective oral communication need to be evaluated on a sample of spoken material.   Therefore, all incoming students are required to record the following speech evaluation.  When you read the material into the phone, your voice will be recorded and then will be listened to by a faculty member with expertise in speech.  If it is determined that taking a speech course would be beneficial to you during your freshman year, we will notify you that you should enroll in a section of Fundamentals of Voice and Diction (SPE 1020).  Students earn three hours of General Education credit for successfully completing SPE 1020.

Please click here to complete the speech evaluation.  It should not take more than 5 -10 minutes on the phone.  If you have any questions, please email Tina Emanuel at tina.emanuel@uncp.edu.
