  • Lack of knowledge of library policy
  • Lack of understanding library policy
  • Disagreement with library policy
  • Failure to update your address with the Library or University
  • Failure to check your mail or e-mail
  • Unwillingness to take responsibility for materials loaned to a third party
  • Inability to pay fines
  • Inclement weather
  • Problem with renewals
  • Being out of town on the due date
  • Forgetting the due date

Laptop fines will not be waived as these are agreed to in advance when you sign the Laptop Computer Agreement Form prior to borrowing a laptop.

Appeals are reviewed first by the Access Services/Reference Librarian.  If the appeal is denied, the patron may submit an appeal to the Assistant Dean for Research Services.  If the second appeal is denied the patron may make a final appeal to the Dean of Library Services.  The decision of the Dean is final and may not be further appealed.  Patrons should note that in the majority of cases, appeals that are initially denied are unlikely to be overturned further up the appeals hierarchy.
