This series consists of approximately 291 miscellaneous images of people and activities in Robeson County and surrounding counties. It includes images of contestants in the 1984 Robeson County Junior Miss Contest, a Charter Night Banquet for the Wakulla Jaycees, a Christmas parade in Lumberton, and an appearance of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales in Pembroke on February 22, 1981. Photo Description: Pictured above are some of the 26 charter members of the Wakulla Jaycees. As described in the May 12 issue of the Robesonian, the club was chartered on May 8, 1971, with the Prospect Jaycees as the sponsoring club. The charter night banquet was held in the Oxendine School cafeteria and was attended by some 200 Jaycees, their wives, and special guests. Standing in the back row are Bobby D. Oxendine (5th from the left), the new club president, and Avery Nye, Jr. (6th from the left), the N. C. State Jaycee Treasurer and the guest speaker for the evening.
Wakulla is a census-designated place (CDP) in Robeson County, North Carolina. The Wakulla community is generally considered to be located between the roads of Rev. Bill and Doc Henderson and to extend to Mt. Zion and Beaver Dam Roads with its center being at Oxendine Elementary School and Cherokee Chapel Holiness Methodist Church.
