Marty Spitzer

Mr. Marty Spitzer is the UNCP Director of Marching and Athletic Bands, Music Education Instructor, and Saxophone Studio Instructor. He holds a BS in Music Education from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. His MA Music with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting is from Ball State University, Muncie Indiana. He served as Director of Bands in notable high school band programs in Indiana, Maryland, and Ohio. Most recently he served as the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Bellbrook High School in Bellbrook Ohio, where his programs were recognized for outstanding acclaim in Marching, Concert, Jazz, Chamber Music, and Musical Theater. He directed the Bellbrook High School Marching Band Program to five Bands of America National Class Championships, and the elite BOA Grand National Finalist ranking. He has served as an adjudicator for marching, concert band, color guard, and indoor percussion events in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Florida, Kentucky, New Jersey and Connecticut. Marty served multiple terms on the Bands of America Advisory Board, and is a past President of the Mid-States Band Association. He has served as a program consultant, and design coordinator for competitive high school marching bands in Ohio and Indiana. Mr. Spitzer has taught master classes and workshops for state and regional music education associations and adjudication seminars for several judging associations in the Mid-west.

Mr. Spitzer was a student of saxophone artist Dr. John Sampen and a member of Sampen’s inaugural freshman class at the Bowling Green State University, College of Musical Arts. After graduating from B.G.S.U., Spitzer furthered his performance area saxophone studies as a student of Dr. George Wolfe at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
