Huadong Lu

Upon graduation from the Guangdong Institute of Arts with a degree in violin performance,  Mr. Huadong Lu joined the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. In 1993, he received a full scholarship to study with the most well-known Chinese-American violin educator and performer living in the U.S., Professor Si-hon Ma at Kent State University at Kent, Ohio. While studying at Kent State, he performed with the Akron Symphony professionally as a violinist. After graduation in 1993, with two masters degrees, one in violin performance and one in education, Mr. Lu has been teaching orchestras in public schools.

In addition to teaching full time in public schools, he served as artistic director and conductor for the Lincoln Youth Symphony, and as well as the Wesleyan University Symphony Orchestra in Lincoln Nebraska from 1996 to 2002. In December of 1997, he conducted the Wesleyan University Symphony Orchestra to perform the complete Messiah by Handel, and the performance was televised throughout the Nebraska State.

In 2003, he became an orchestra teacher with the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District in Orange County, New York, and founded the Orange County Youth Symphony in 2009. He is very passionate about creating opportunities for his students to travel and perform overseas so they can learn different cultures and make international friends to promote understanding and friendship among peoples of the world.

He led the Lincoln Youth Symphony to perform in Guangzhou, China, and Hong Kong in 1999, and in Beijing in 2001. As a cultural exchange and at the invitation of Mr. Lu on behalf of the Lincoln Youth Symphony, the Symphony Orchestra of the Xinhai Music Conservatory in Guangzhou came to perform a joined concert with the Lincoln Youth Symphony in 2002. Since he became the artistic director and conductor of the Orange County Youth Symphony, Mr. Lu has led this orchestra to perform joined concerts in Beijing, China, in 2010, in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2011. At the invitation of the Orange County Youth Symphony, the Music ensemble from the Jan Hanus School of Music, Prague, Czech Republic,  came to perform a joined concert in Orange County, New York in 2011.

In recent years, Mr. Lu has been guest-conducting youth symphony orchestras, college symphony orchestras and school symphony orchestras in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, China, and Singapore. He has also given master classes and has adjudicated music festivals in those places. He also appeared as a conductor for the Hong Kong International Summer Camp Orchestra Program in 2014.
