The Music Industry program at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke offers a unique and innovative curriculum, combining musical studies with a focus on technology and entrepreneurship. Our program is one of the first of its kind to partner with Media Integration and Entrepreneurial Studies. This interdisciplinary synergy allows us to provide our students with the fundamental tools necessary to establish themselves, adapt and succeed in an industry that is constantly changing.
The curriculum is centered upon a broad study of the many elements comprising the modern music industry, including an historical tour of the recording industry, and an intense study of recording techniques in Audio Production and Studio Techniques. Students receive significant experience performing music in large and small group settings, and also have the opportunity to perform in many other ensembles in a wide variety of styles. The program features two tracks: Classical or Jazz & Commercial Music.
Technological proficiency is imperative in the contemporary music industry. The Music Industry program has formed a partnership with Media Integration Studies, a collaborative curriculum consisting of music, graphic design, digital video and animation that focuses on the creation of original digital content in a student-centered studio environment.
Three courses in Entrepreneurship are designed to stimulate entrepreneurial thinking and assist and support entrepreneurs in their new ventures. These courses provide a foundation for students to envision, grow, and sustain their future businesses. Studies culminate in the development of a viable business plan, ready to be enacted. Students will receive a Certificate in Entrepreneurship in addition to a Bachelor of Art degree in Music with Music Industry Emphasis upon graduating from UNCP.
