Mass Communication

Mass Communication

The Department of Mass Communication

Old Main

The Department of Mass Communication is a liberal arts program offering tracks in Broadcasting, Journalism, and Public Relations.

We employ a balance of theory and practice in the study of mass communication. Graduates from our program have the option to pursue professional careers in their chosen field, or to pursue graduate studies in the discipline.

Professional & Graduate School Preparation

We emphasize a strong liberal arts education and rigorous professional preparation for students planning careers in mass media and media-related fields. Courses in our program frequently utilize hands-on experiences to simulate working in professional environments. All students are required to take an internship with a business or organization related to their chosen track. Students are also required to take courses offering theoretical perspectives and research methodologies within the field to prepare them for entrance into graduate programs. Learn about what some of our alumni are up to here (the link will download a PDF).

Student productions

Our students benefit from the real world experiences they find in The Pine Needle campus newspaper, WNCP-TV television station, and our chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

If you are looking for top-notch preparation for an exciting professional career in media, why not stop by Old Main and see us?
