Electronic Portfolio: MAT Phase I

Starting with the 2010 Catalogue, both Phase I and II of the MAT program must be evaluated with an electronic portfolio. Please consult the Program Director for specific directions, but below are the general directions.

1. Electronic portfolios for Phases I and II of the MAT are accessed through Taskstream. Therefore all candidates must purchase a license to access Taskstream from the UNCP Bookstore or directly from Taskstream; be sure that the license will last for the time it will take you to complete both phases of the program, as you will need it to complete Phase II, as well as the Midpoint and Exit interviews. You will find it easier to upload materials as you go, as well.

2. All evidences were developed with a particular course product in mind; note that students who started on a previous catalogue will have to substitute independent materials to replace those course materials. As you take ENG 5300, EDN 5450, or EDN 5040, you should upload the required course products from those courses as soon as the course ends, unless the course instructor requires an upload to Taskstream as a course requirement. In some cases course instructors may not require materials that exactly match the required evidences, in which case you may substitute independent materials in consultation with the Program Director.

3. Note that Taskstream does not have the reputation of being easy to use, though people do overstate its difficulty. In particular, it is very important that you release materials once they are uploaded, so that they can be assessed. If you are given a choice of whom to submit materials to, be sure to put the name of the Program Director. The access code for the Phase I Directed Response Folio (DRF) is MATENGLISH. Once you have accessed the Phase I DRF, you should be able to upload the necessary files for each Electronic Evidence.

4. When at all possible, it is recommended that you submit files as PDFs or in Microsoft Wlord format. If you use a Macintosh computer, the system print utility will allow you to save any file as a PDF. For Windows users, current versions of Microsoft Office contain the PDF format as a Save As option. For sample student work, transcripts, signed forms, and the like, most scanners will allow you to save in the PDF format; note that black and white scans generally yield more manageable files.

Content Knowledge:.

Undergraduate transcript and supplemental prerequisite transcript

Evidence that demonstrates breadth of content knowledge in the specialty area. Copy of transcript with at least 24 semester hours of coursework relevant to the specialty area from a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of C (2.0) or better in each of the 24 hours (must include the 18 hours of stated program perquisites) OR satisfactory Praxis II scores.

Each candidate will need copies of undergraduate transcripts, and supplemental transcripts to show completion of any admission prerequisites at the undergraduate level. The Program Director typically receives PDF files of official transcripts, and is willing to share those with candidates for the purpose of uploading them.


Content Knowledge:

ENG 5300 Literary Analysis

Evidence that demonstrates candidate depth of understanding and application of content knowledge in the specialty area. Research paper with accompanying PowerPoint presentation, prepared as part of ENG 5300.

Candidates who have taken ENG 5300 should have electronic copies of their final research papers, as well as the PowerPoint for their final presentations. As such materials are submitted electronically, the course instructor can also supply them if needed.


Pedagogical and Professional Knowledge Skills and Dispositions:

EDN 5450 Writing about Literature Unit Plan with Sample Lesson

Evidence that demonstrates effective design of classroom instruction based on research-verified practice. All candidates in EDN 5450 will complete a researched unit plan with sample lesson, with parameters set by the content area methods faculty (shared rubrics with Undergraduate programs). Candidates who substituted EDN 5820 may submit an alternative researched unit plan with sample lessons. Note, however, that the unit plan from EED 5510 will be part of Phase II.

Candidates who have taken EDN 5450 should have electronic copies of this assignment to upload. Candidates who are substituting EDN 5820 for this course may upload a unit plan and sample lessons developed either in that course or in their professional practice. Consult the rubrics to be sure that your sample unit is what it should be. This evidence does not require samples of student work, but should be based on some research in the field.


Pedagogical and Professional Knowledge Skills and Dispositions:

LEA/IHE Certification of Teaching Capacity

Evidence that demonstrates knowledge, skills, and dispositions in practice. Interns will receive an Intern Midpoint Evaluation (IME), Intern Exit Evaluation (IEE), and Evaluation of Teacher Candidate Performance on UNCP Standards I-VI, which will be completed by the intern, the clinical teacher, and the university supervisor.  Interns will be evaluated by the university supervisor at least four times using the Intern Observation Form. Candidates who are lateral-entry teachers may substitute the documentation used to exempt them from EED 5810, or havethis form completed by their supervisor where they teach..

Candidates who take EED 5810 should have this material from their internship, though they may have to scan some forms to PDF. If you are a lateral-entry teacher, upload a PDF copy of the paperwork you submitted to the Licensure Office to exempt EED 5810, or have this form completed by your immediate supervisor at your school. If your school's evaluation process uses the same standards, you may also submit a completed personnel evaluation using these standards.


Positive Impact on Student Learning:

Teacher Candidate Work Sample (TCWS)

Evidence that demonstrates impact on student learning. This document uses the implementation of a unit to assess student learning, through pre- and post-testing.

Candidates who take EED 5810 will produce this material as part of the internship. For candidates who are lateral-entry teachers, you must present a unit that you have taught in your class, which uses a complete assessment apparatus. This will require access to a scanner to make PDFs, as you will need the unit and detailed lesson plans that you implemented, copies of students’ pre-unit and post-unit assessments, and whatever formative and summative assessment instruments you used during the unit. Include also your data analysis (averages, etc.) for the unit, and a reflection on how you will revise the unit based on the assessment process. Remove or obscure all student identifying information before scanning student work or showing scores.This may be a version of the same unit submitted for Evidence 3, but it must include the performance assessment materials. Consult the rubrics for a sense of what you should include in the materials and reflection.


Leadership and Collaboration:

EDN 5040 Leadership Survey

Evidence that demonstrates leadership and collaboration. All candidates in EDN 5040 will research, analyze, and synthesize the roles of various school personnel, complete an in-depth survey, and compose a report on how they see themselves as leaders in the school setting. Candidates who substituted EDN 5500 may submit an alternative leadership artifact.

Candidates who have taken EDN 5040 should have electronic copies of this assignment to upload. Candidates who are substituting EDN 5500 should produce a document similar to that produced in EDN 5040, which categorizes the different types of leadership roles of different school personnel, and then reflects on the candidate’s own anticipated professional leadership role.
