Counseling Programs Recent Achievements

Recent achievements include:

  • 2013: the Counseling programs were accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 
  • 2013: the Counseling Programs were one of three nationwide recipients of the National Board of Certified Counselors Professional Identity Award
  • 2015: a Professional School Counseling student was awarded the prestigious National Board of Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship in the amount of $5000
  • 2016: a Clinical Mental Health Counseling student was awarded the prestigious National Board of Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship in Addictions in the amount of $11,000
  • 2016: the UNC Pembroke chapter of the international counseling honor society, Chi Sigma Iota, was awarded the Outstanding Chapter Program Award and recognized at the 2016 American Counseling Association annual conference in Montreal, Canada
  • 2017: the Professional School Counseling Program establishes the universities first post-master certificate: Advanced School Counselor for Postsecondary Success
  • 2017: the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program establishes an MoU with the VA allowing students to complete field placement experiences 
  • 2017: the American School Counselor Association awards the Professional School Counseling Program a grant for $8500 to study the impact of RAMP status on college and career readiness 
  • 2017: the Counseling Programs expand course offerings to Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC
