    Piedmont Natural Gas has restored service to campus this evening. As a result of the work performed today there will be detours on Faculty Row for both vehicles and pedestrians. Please use extreme caution and do not attempt to go around the barricades.

    Facilities and Piedmont Natural Gas personnel will continue working with the natural gas infrastructure on campus throughout the week. Service disruption is not anticipated, but could be possible. This work is being performed to make every effort to maintain a safe and healthy campus environment. 

    Dining services will resume standard operations for Sunday, January 22. We appreciate your patience today and apologize for any inconvenience.

RISE Fellows to Present Posters of Summer Research Conducted in Dr. Ben Bahr's Laboratory

RISE Fellows, Sarah (Hafner) Ruiz and Paul Freeman will present separate posters on Friday, 23 August 2013, during the RISE program's Summer 2013 Student Research Poster Session in the Oxendine Science Building. Both Fellows performed their summer research in Dr. Ben Bahr's William C. Friday (Alzheimer) laboratory, located at the UNCP Biotechnology Research and Training Center.


Sarah, who has the double distinction of serving as both a RISE Fellow and a NC Space Grant Scholar this past summer, entitled her poster "Assessing an Adhesion Marker During a Distinct Route of Neuroprotection." Co-authors on the poster are Michael Tyler Bullock, Pamela Quizon, Vinogran Naidoo, Uzoma S. Ikonne, Alexandros Makriyannis, and Ben A. Bahr.


Paul Freeman entitled his poster "A Tool for Accessing Cytoskeletal Damage (Spectrin Breakdown)." Co-authors on the poster are Tyler Bullock, Heather Romine, Uzoma Ikonne, and Ben Bahr.


Pamela Quizon is a recent UNCP Biology graduate who has recently started in the doctoral program at USC-Columbia. Dr. Uzoma (Samuel) Ikonne is both a co-author and co-mentor for the undergraduate researchers, and he is now a Research Assistant Professor in Biology. Co-author M. Tyler Bullock was a high school student in Dr. Bahr's lab this summer as part of the Research - Engineering Apprenticeship Program through the U.S. Army.
