Dr. Velinda Woriax has been appointed to be the next chair of the Department of Biology. She will succeed Dr. David Zeigler, who served in the position for two terms.
A member of the faculty since 1995, Dr. Woriax is a veteran teacher of Cell Biology, introductory and advanced science courses, and Freshman Seminar. She also is the principal investigator for the North Carolina A&T University/NSF North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NC-LSAMP), which promotes the study of STEM disciplines by students in underrepresented groups. In 2013, she received UNCP’s Dial Award for Community Service.
