Undergrad Research Showcased in RISE Summer Poster Session

John Roe and Zachary Lunn Marisol Santisteban and Casey Haywood
Several undergraduate students from UNC Pembroke had a busy summer engaged in scientific research.  On Friday, 28 August 2015, their research was showcased during the End-of-Summer Student Research Presentation, sponsored by the Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) Program. Students presented research posters during this annual event, which ran from 3:00-5:00 PM on the first floor lobby of the Oxendine Science Building.

More than a dozen research projects were exhibited, ranging from box turtle ecology, drug discovery for Alzheimer's Disease, to chemotaxis of a G-protein, determination of verdet constants, and to genome annotation of fruit flies.  Research projects took place on campuses across the state and out of state -- as far away as Malibu, California.  Faculty from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Geography and Geology at UNC Pembroke mentored most of the students.
