M.A.T. Field Experiences

In-course field placements:

Field experiences enable candidates to acquire practical experience along with theoretical knowledge. All field experiences are integrated within the professional studies core and include assignments which are submitted as partial fulfillment of course requirements. Additionally, unless currently employed in North Carolina as a lateral entry teacher in the licensure area, all MAT candidates are required to complete a 10-week (3 semester hours) internship experience in an approved public school setting. At minimum, all MAT candidates must take (as a corequisite for at least one graduate course with a field experience):

EDN 5460. Field Experience (0 hours)

This course is intended for students pursuing the Master of Arts in Teaching degree. It is designed to provide the structured field experience that supports the practical application of theoretical constructs. Graduate students in programs at UNCP will actively engage with clinical teachers and the K-12 students to broaden their knowledge bases and engage in school-based professional activities. (Course may be repeated.)

Field Experiences are coordinated and evaluated through the Office of University-School Partnerships (910.521.6321) in collaboration with the course instructor. If the candidate is employed in a public school setting, the field experience will be carried out within that setting.
