Teacher Education Programs

You are progressing through your teacher education program at UNCP, and you are approaching your internship semester, the culminating experience in your preparation program. As a student teacher, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your teaching ability with real students over a period of several months.

During your internship semester, under the direction of your clinical teacher and with guidance from your program coordinator, you will design and develop instructional units, daily lesson plans, and teaching materials. In order to determine how well you facilitated learning for all students, you will assess student learning before, during, and after instruction. You will reflect on your teaching experiences to promote your ongoing professional growth and development.

The Teacher Candidate Work Sample (TCWS) is the capstone product for the teacher education program. As an intern, you will plan, implement, and evaluate a unit of study designed to meet the needs of a specific group of learners in a PK-12 public school setting. Simply stated, a “teacher candidate work sample” is an implemented unit of study. The purpose of the TCWS is an important one—to determine whether or not you can have a positive impact on all students’ learning.
