ACCREDITED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Department of Art

The Department of Art at UNCP was granted an associate membership in the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) in 2012. UNCP is one of only six NASAD accredited institutions in North Carolina. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art and a Master of Arts in Art Education (K-12). Studio areas include: ceramics, digital art, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.  Read more.

 

Department of Chemistry & Physics

The Chemistry Program is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS). There are several degree tracks including analytical, environmental, forensics, molecular biotechnology, pre-health professions, and professional tracks that prepare students to pursue their master’s and doctoral degrees. Read more here and here

 

Department of Music

The Department of Music is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the music teacher education licensure program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Carolina State Board of Education. The Department of Music offers Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music Education (Teacher Certification), Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre, and a Bachelor of Arts with electives hours in Music Industry. Read more here and here

 

Department of Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program earned accreditation for an additional 10 years by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in November 2014. CCNE is the gold standard of national accrediting agency. UNCP’s BSN graduates have a 94 percent passing rate over the last three years on the nursing examination (NCLEX-RN), which easily exceeds CCNE and UNC standards. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program earned initial accreditation for five years by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in November 2014. The program has three specializations: nurse educator, clinical nurse leader and rural care management. UNCP earned the maximum accreditation for both programs with no recommendations and compliance concerns.  Read more

 

Department of Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The BSW program prepares students for professional entry-level positions while the Advanced Generalist MSW program trains students to become leaders in enhancing the quality of life in rural and Native American communities.  Read more.

Best Online Colleges

UNC Pembroke was ranked 22nd as Best Online Colleges for 2015-2016.  UNCP makes a special effort to ensure online students have the same access to academic services as on-campus students, including academic advisingand support, library services, online tutoring, and technical assistance. The school offers online bachelor’s degree programs in criminal justice, management, sociology, finance, professional studies, information technology, economics, and public and nonprofit administration. Online master’s degree programs are available in elementary education, public administration (MPA) and business administration (MBA). Read more

  

Criminal Justice (Online)

The program was ranked 1st by Affordable Online Colleges as the best online degree program in Criminal Justice for 2015-2016. With a focus on the practical applications of criminal justice, the Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice degree allows students to experience real-life simulations delivered via streaming video, with the goal of developing critical, strategic and independent thinking. Internships are available to introduce students to the criminal justice working environment, and can help prepare them to work as victims' advocates, narcotics officers, detectives, police supervisors and customs officers. Resources such as financial aid, writing support and academic advising are also available to online students.  Read more

 

Nursing Program

The RN-to-BSN program has been ranked 5th as 30 Best Value Colleges for Nursing among Southern colleges and universities. The ranking of Best Value Schools was based on multiple criteria including affordability, retention, graduation rates, student-faculty ratio, percentage of courses taught by full-time faculty and admissions standards. In 2015, UNCP’s BSN graduates have a 94 percent passing rate over the last three years on the nursing examination (NCLEX-RN), which easily exceeds CCNE and UNC standards. Read more. 

 

Public Administration (Online)

The Master's in Public Administration online program was ranked among the 50 Best Online Master’s in Public Administration Degree Programs by Top Management Degrees in May 2015. In June 2016, Value Colleges also ranked the program in the top 50 Best Value Online MPA Programs.  The MPA program and its three tracks in emergency management, criminal justice and health administration were rated as a “Best Buy” by the national editorial review team from GetEducated.com in 2008. A “Best Buy” designation indicates that a program has been reviewed and judged to offer a high quality distance masters to a national audience at tuition rates well below the national average.

Master's in Social Work

The MSW program was ranked 6th by Best Social Works Programs for 50 Most Affordable Accredited MSW Programs in the East for 2016. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke offers an affordable MSW degree program designed to equip students to work as professional social workers and also gain the knowledge needed to pursue licensing. The MSW program is offered in two main formats: a regular 60 credit hours program and an advanced standing 38 credit hours program. The 60 credit hours program may be completed over two years (regular) or in three years (extended or part-time program). The 38 credit hours program may be completed over 12 months full-time or 24 months part-time program. MSW regular students complete a minimum of 930 field practicum hours while advanced standing students complete 500 field practicum hours. Read more.
