Q: What if I cannot return to campus until Monday because of conditions in my area?
A: We recommend students make their personal safety their priority. Please montor weather conditions in your area and along your entire route to campus prior to traveling. If conditions exist making travel dangerous for you, please notify your professors as soon as possible to notify them you will not be in class on Monday due to weather conditions.
Q: I have not registered yet, what should I do?
A: An alternate registration period will be available on the following days and times in the D.F. Lowry Building:
Friday, January 6, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Monday, January 9, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Q: When can I move into my dorm room?
A: Returning students will be allowed to move-in to the residence halls and campus apartments beginning Friday, January 6. Please contact Housing and Residence Life for additional information. Move-in for new students will be as follows:
Friday, January 6, 1 - 3 p.m.
Monday, January 9, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Q: How can I get to campus if I-95 is closed?

Q: When will classes resume and campus reopen?
We are hoping to notify you of the status of campus no later than 6 p.m. Friday evening to allow adequate time for arrangements to be made. We understand that some students, faculty and staff will continue to face personal challenges as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Please contact your professors, advisors or supervisors if you have difficulty returning as instructed.
Q: Will Saturday’s football game be played?
YES! The braves will take the field on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Scotland High School. Ticket price is $10 for all admission and relief donations will be collected on site. For more information, please visit uncpbraves.com
Q: Was my residence hall flooded and when will it be repaired?
No major flood damage was sustained as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Facilities staff have been working diligently all week to assess and repair minor damage associated with the storm. Considering the severity of the situation all around us, our campus is fortunate.
Q: Will UNCP replace spoiled food in dorm rooms?
Unfortunately, UNCP cannot replace spoiled groceries. We encourage you to contact your renter’s insurance carrier as some will reimburse for lost food items. Please note that no food served in the cafeteria this week will be charged against student meal plans.

Q: Are my online classes cancelled?
YES. All classes and activities are suspended this week. Your professors should not be requesting assignments due while campus is on a closure status.
Q: When will refund checks be available?
The major challenge impacting campus is lack of power. Once power is restored, we can provide an accurate date for you to expect refund checks.
Q: When will we come back to class?
Right now, we are hopeful that the situation will be much improved by Monday, allowing us to return to regular operations. We will notify you as soon as possible, allowing enough time for you to return to campus safely.
Q: When are midterm grades due?
Mid-term grades were due today; however, that deadline has been extended to Wednesday, October 19.
Q: How is the drop date affected?
A determination will be made on a revised drop date as soon as possible.
Q: Are all assignments postponed until Wednesday? Or is that left to the discretion of the instructor?
Each professor will determine how they will make up assignments. Please contact them directly for such information.
Q: I was planning to graduate this coming, but my home is flooded and I will face significant hardships. What accommodations are being considered for those who must relocate?
Please work with your professors, department chairs and deans to obtain any necessary extensions. If you need further assistance, please contact the Office of Academic Affairs.
Q: What if you have a mid-term test due for an online class this week. Will the test be postponed?
Yes, the test will be postponed since all classes--including online classes--are suspended through today.
Q: Will deadlines for assignments be pushed back?
Yes, professors will adjust assignment deadlines to account for the storm and its aftermath.
Q: Will the deadline be extended so that BSW students will be able to turn their application?
Yes, the deadline will be extended since the university is officially closed. Please contact the department chair for the new deadline and additional information.
Q: What if I didn't have resources to do my class assignment or turn it in at the posted time?
Because classes were cancelled, including online classes, your professors will adjust assignment deadlines that were due this week.
Q: Was there any flooding of first floor rooms in residence halls?
Our staff is in the process of thoroughly inspecting all facilities for potential damage. It appears that no significant water damage has occurred in any residence halls. Some minor leaks may have occurred around windows and doors. Housekeeping and facilities are working hard on clean-up efforts so we are prepared when all of our students return to campus.
