Plug-in Electric Vehicle (PEV) Charging on Campus

EV Ribbon Cutting - Aug 2017

Ribbon-cutting of two most recent car charging stations via $10K grant from Duke Energy on August 22, 2017

Anyone on campus who drives a plug-in electric (PEV) is welcomed to recharge it, at either one of the six electric vehicle charging stations (EVSE) on campus, currently located in Lot 17 (visitor lot, anyone can use these chargers) in front of the Dial Humanities Building and Lumbee Hall; Lot 14 (general parking lot, students, faculty and staff can use) at the Jones Health and Physical Education Building; in Lot 6 (faculty and staff lot, only) behind Moore Hall or in Lot 26 (student lot) at Village Apartments. Please move your vehicle once charged to allow others the same access.  Campus Parking Map, link.  As the demand on campus increases for more stations, plans are to install more to meet the need.  On June 23, 2014 UNCP became the first college in North Carolina to become a Partner in DOE's Workplace Charging Challenge!  The Workplace Charging Challenge is a collaborative effort to increase the number of U.S. employers offering workplace charging by tenfold inthe next five years.  For more information about the Challenge, see DOE's Workplace Charging Challenge website.  A two kW solar photovoltaic (PV) array was installed to offset the energy consumed by the 2 EVSE at Lot 17, creating a carbon net-zero application! A one kW solar PV array was installed at each of the single chargers in lot 6 & 14, as well. To view UNC Pembroke's Partner Plan, click here.

Preferred Parking for Qualifying Low-Emitting (LEV), Fuel-Efficient (FEV) and Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs)

 LEV/FEV/AFV Preferred Parking

To reward owners of qualifying LEV, FEV and AFVs--you will be allowed to park in specially marked spaces near the entrance of some buildings on campus.  This initiative has been introduced at the Health Sciences Building, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified building, and is also available at the new Brave Health Center, a certified Two Green Globes building.  To park in one of these preferred spaces, a UNCP LEV decal is required.  There is no additional fee for the LEV decal, however, you must purchase or have already purchased a current UNCP parking permit.  Bring proof of vehicle registration, type of transmission (automatic or manual) and size of engine for your vehicle to verify qualification and receive your free LEV decal from Campus Police.  Parking in one of these spaces without the decal will result in a ticket.  To see if a vehicle qualifies, students and employees can visit the current LEV list on the Greener website. For more information about parking on campus, visit Police & Public Safety’s Parking/Traffic Control website, here.
