Mission

Student Academic Support and Retention is responsible for leading and coordinating several offices that provide direct academic support to students: the Advising Center, the Academic Support Center, the College Opportunity Program, Accessibility Resource Center, the North Carolina Health Careers Access Program, Transfer Transition, TRIO Programs, the University Writing Center, New Student and Family Orientation, and the Native Americans in Professional Education grant from the NASNTI program of the U.S. Department of Education.

The main focus of these offices, and of the larger SASR unit, is supporting and improving student academic success and retention. The Assistant Vice Chancellor, who reports to the Provost, provides centralized leadership, ensuring that the various offices work smoothly together and share resources and referrals; and also promotes the offices' services to the larger campus community, facilitating SASR staff communication with faculty, department chairs, deans, and students.
