UNCP employees may elect to participate either in the Teachers' and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS), or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). The ORP has four carriers: TIAA-CREF, Lincoln Life, VALIC, and Fidelity Investments. Employee contribution is 6% of salary. Employer contribution is 14.69% (19.69% for LEO) in the TSERS plan and 12.68% in the ORP.
Employees participate in the State of North Carolina's Preferred Provider Organization (PPO).
Pre-tax plans available to employees: Health Care Flexible Spending Account, Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account, Vision Care Plan, Voluntary Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance, Pre-tax Dental, Voluntary Group Term Life Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance and Cancer Insurance.
The State of NC provides a Disability Income Plan (DIP) to all employees. The plan provides short-term disability coverage after one year of employment at 50% of salary, and long-term disability at 65% of salary after 5 years of service. Additional optional or supplemental disability plans are also available through The Standard, Liberty Mutual (PDF), Colonial Life and American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC).
Employee contribution only, tax-sheltered annuities are available through two carriers: TIAA-CREF and Fidelity Investments (Beginning January 1, 2009). Employees also have access to a 457 NC Deferred Compensation Plan and a NC State 401(k) plan, employee contribution only.
Optional group life insurance plans are available through Jefferson-Pilot, AFLAC and Colonial Life and Accident. The State Retirement system (TSERS) automatically awards a death benefit of $25,000 minimum to $50,000 maximum. ORP does not offer this benefit.
The State Employees Association of North Carolina membership services include (available to SEANC members only): Group Term Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment Coverage, Corporate Vision Plan, Mail Rx, AAA Travel Agency, Scholarships, Group Buying discounts, and The State Employee Reporter.
Personal Liability protection is provided by the State of NC at no cost to the employee.

SPA and EPA non-teaching faculty, working 12 months per year (40 hours per week), accrue annual and sick leave. (Refer to appropriate handbook for leave accrual). EPA teaching faculty do not accrue leave. Refer to the faculty handbook for a detailed explanation of leave policy.
