inner & outer landscape: contemporary self-portraiture & representation
3rd Annual International Juried Exhibition
On View: February 18 - March 11, 2011

An exhibit of art works that offer a contemporary look at self-portraiture today. This is the third national juried competition for the A.D. Gallery.
Submissions for this exhibition reflect how contemporary artists use self-
portraiture to explore notions of identity through both representational and non-representational methods. This exhibition examines the varied aspects of self- portraiture from established and traditional self-portraiture (a representation of the physical self or exterior self), to more alternative approaches in self-portraiture (a representation of the innermost persona).
These juxtapositions offer a play between the inner and outer landscapes of the self- the obvious or physical representation and the imaginary or metaphorical representation, enriching the discourse of contemporary self-portraiture.
